«We wish to expand knowledge of the competition law and the work of the Authority,» says Director General for Competition Knut Eggum Johansen. He hopes that many will enjoy the Sami-language edition of konkurransetilsynet.no.
«The Competition Authority's mission is to promote healthy competition, which benefits both businesses and consumers. We do this in part by spreading knowledge about the rules and about the work the Authority does,» said the Director General.
On the Sami language web pages, there is information about the Competition Act’s prohibitions against illegal cooperation and abuse of dominant position, as well as the obligation to notify certain mergers and acquisitions to the Competition Authority. The contents of the Sami pages will gradually be expanded.
«Our goal is to offer relevant information to all concerned, in keeping with the government communications policy. As a state activity, we have also a special responsibility to ensure good communication with users of the Sami languages,» Eggum Johansen pointed out.
He also indicated that the government had, in the previous year, put forward an action plan for the Sami languages that leads to a broad and long-term effort to secure the future of the Sami languages.
«The Competition Authority is of course just a small part of this. Nevertheless, we see it as important to help ensure that the Sami language is used actively and becomes more visible in the public space,» says the director general for competition.
