The Norwegian Competition Authority has imposed on the law firm, Advokatfirmaet Steenstrup Stordrange DA, an administrative fine of NOK 100 000 for early implementing a merger with DLA Piper Bergen DA.
- The Norwegian Competition Authority regards implementing a merger during the prohibition of implementation period after notification as a serious breach and the Authority will use administrative fines as a tool to ensure that the prohibition is respected, said head of section Eivind Stage.
Prohibition of implementation
Since 1 July 2008, mergers and acquisitions are prohibited from being implemented before they have been notified to and reviewed by the Competition Authority. There is no deadline for notifying a concentration to the Competition Authority, provided that the parties have not started to implement the concentration.
The reason for the implementation prohibition is to enable the Norwegian Competition Authority to effectively investigate and control concentrations.
